As a student consultant, you will begin with a comparative analysis of certification schemes, examining which European Commission-approved certification schemes for Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) are equivalent to ISCC EU based on sustainability criteria. Next, you will conduct a sustainability assessment to evaluate whether ISCC EU and other certification schemes adequately address key sustainability aspects. This analysis will focus on human rights risks, alternative biomass applications, and the impact of HVO on land use and CO₂ emissions. Following this, you will assess how the Climate Agreement’s calculation rules influence the production, registration, and trade of HVO, with particular attention to CO₂ reduction claims and potential regulatory challenges. At the end of the project, you will compile your findings into a final report, providing concrete recommendations for ProRail on certification schemes, sustainability assurance, and emission reduction strategies. In short, a dynamic and impactful project with plenty to explore and improve!
